Three eighth-grade students from Penn-Trafford School District teamed up to organize a food drive for the district’s Backpacks-To-Go Program. Ashley Hetrick (Trafford Middle School), Jillian Rettger, and Gabby Geary (Penn Middle School) held the drive to fulfill a Confirmation Project through St. Barbara Church.
On January 14th, the girls set up a collection table at Giant Eagle on Penny Lane in Jeannette. The girls distributed a flyer to shoppers which listed food items needed for the summer backpacks-to-go distribution and collected these items as well as monetary donations.
Giant Eagle shoppers responded with donations equaling ten boxes of food and $853.43 to support Backpacks-To-Go.
